Ugandan President Backed To Run For Presidency For The 7th Time
The current serving President of the Republic of Uganda has been backed up to vie for the presidency coming up in 2026 for the 7th time by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has been in power since January 1986, has gotten another chance to be the presidential flag bearer after speculations went around that his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, would follow in his footsteps when he retires in 2025.
The ruling party, NRM led by Vice
President Jessica Alupo, has come out clearly to endorse President Museveni
barely three years before the presidential election, which is against the
constitution. The constitution states that a presidential flagbearer should be
mentioned at least three months before the election.
Museveni scrapped a constitutional amendment that limited
presidential terms in 2005, and later in 2017, he did away with the law that
limited the age of a sitting president. These actions have accelerated his
thirst for power, and he might end up in power until his death.
Speaking at a wedding celebration
for NRM chairman Moses Karangwa, senior presidential advisor Miss Hadijah
Namyalo said that Gen. Muhoozi is a standby generator who would follow in his
father’s footsteps later, but until then, Mr. Museveni remains the candidate.

Nice work
