Prof. George Magoha, Kenyan Education Icon, Passes Away

The Kenyan nation has been hit once again by the death of one of the greatest professors in the country and a former Cabinet Secretary of Education, Prof. George Albert Omore Magoha. The former Cabinet Secretary of Education was pronounced dead by his family members and his doctors at the Nairobi Hospital in Kenya. This comes after his family revealed that he got a heart attack that was caused by the death of his younger brother, Richard Alex Nyabera Magoha, who passed away in the United States in December last year. Prof. George Albert Omore Magoha, who worked for three years during the rule of the previous government and former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, was born in 1952 in Kisumu and attended different schools, including the Royal College of Surgeons, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, and Royal Post Graduate Medical School, among others. Dark Days Looms for Kenya’s Capital as a Drug-resistant Disease is Discovered

A study that was recently carried out by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, shows that people living in the city might be on the verge of getting infected by a drug-resistant disease known as super gonorrhea. Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Patrick Amoth, who is the African region representative and the Vice President of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), said that super gonorrhea was discovered in Nairobi and the spread is rampant. He further added that the study was carried out on 400 participants and was strictly directed at sex workers. However, no one was forced to be part of the study, and everyone that participated did so willingly. According to the ministry of health, out of 400 samples that were tested, one sample was resistant to all the antibiotics it was put through. Reduction in Coronavirus Spread Impacts Student’s National Examination Performance

  The Kenya National Examination Council recently released the form four exams which appeared to have improved compared to the 2021 national exams. According to the Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Ezekiel Machogu Ombachi, 2022 recorded 881,416 candidates who sat for their final year exams compared to 2021 which had only 826,807 candidates who sat for their exams. Mr. Ombachi added that an increment in student registration of about 6.6% between the years 2021 and 2022, happened due to the outbreak of coronavirus which hit the country in 2020, and cases kept rising in 2021. This pandemic led to the closure of schools and made some students drop out of school completely. the number of male students who sat for their exams in 2022 was 443,644 which represented 50.33% of total candidates, whereas registered female students were 437,772, taking 49.67% of the total registered students.
